Compatibility FAQ

Do I have to use Traeger brand pellets in a Traeger grill?

No. Despite what the manual implies about warranty voiding, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal to void a warranty simply for using a third-party consumable. You can safely use any food-grade hardwood pellet.

Why did my Traeger auger jam?

Usually two reasons: 1) Excess sawdust from cheap pellets clumped up in the auger tube. 2) Moisture got into the hopper, causing the pellets to swell and turn into hard concrete inside the auger.

What makes a pellet compatible with the Pro 575?

It needs to break easily (not be overly long) and have low ash content. High ash will fill the relatively small fire pot on the 575 model during an overnight 14-hour brisket cook, potentially suffocating the fire.
